Psychologists say that most people’s musical taste is forever frozen in their teens or twenties.

And I suspect that every music-head ever born has looked at the older generation and thought “No oldies for me. I will always stay current by listening to Top Forty Radio.”

Or today, perhaps it would be better to say “I’ll always check out the New Releases playlist on Spotify.”

But more and more I have found myself pulling up the “Favorites” playlist on my phone when I want to relax. And honestly, that playlist is filled with a lot more music that I found in my Twenties and Thirties than later. But every now and then, a new song excites these aged ears, and I would like to share one with you.

It’s sung by Shawn Colvin, one of my favorite female singers, and appears on the new Billy Childs album, “Map to the Treasure: Reimagining Laura Nyro.” The whole album is cool, but BIlly, Shawn, and Chris Botti’s teamup on “Save The Country” is simply magic.

It’s been awhile since a song caused chills to run up and down my spine, but this one does it. Check it out below. I also won’t hesitate to mention that there is only one radio station in the Midwest playing it. Can you guess which one?

And just because Laura Nyro wrote the tune in 1969, that doesn’t make this version any less new. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
